August, 2007

August 19th was the date of the 3rd annual Pemberton Slow Food Cycle Sunday. This event invites people to bring their bicycles to the town of Pemberton to sample the local agricultural products. People park their vehicles in the town, and cycle the 25 kilometers to the end of the valley, and (if desired) back. Many of the farms welcome the riders to sample their products. A wide variety of things are available; fruits and vegetables, jams and jellies, baked goods of all kinds, and full meals prepared by local chefs. Riders purchasing produce can have it delivered to the town site for later pickup.

Pemberton Meadows Natural Beef is proud to be a participant and supporter of this wonderful event. This year, over 1200 riders registered. This was a considerable increase over last year’s number, despite the fact that the weather in Vancouver, Squamish, and Whistler was rainy, discouraging a number of potential participants. The rain held off in Pemberton, and cycling conditions were perfect. Pemberton Meadows Natural Beef served over 420 hamburgers to the appreciative riders, with most of the proceeds going to the Pemberton Valley Search and Rescue.

A wonderful time was had by all. Check out the website of the Slow Food Ride at slowfoodcyclesunday.com, and join us next year on August 18th.
